Hansford Rowe
Exclusive Interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman
January 16, 2012
Hansford Rowe is an American bassist who began his career in the clubs of New York City. Rowe, along with French drummer Pierre Moerlen, reformed the jazz/rock group Gong, which often featured music icons Mick Taylor, Steve Winwood and Didier Lockwood as guest performers. Hansford is also a founding member of the band Gongzilla.
As one of the world’s leading bassists, Rowe has worked with the likes of Mike Oldfield, Allan Holdsworth, John Martyn, Biréli Lagrène, La Monte Young, David “Fuze” Fiuczynski, Gary Husband and many others. He was also responsible for the development of the Warwick “Just Intonation” bass guitar.
Hansford is currently working on a new project called Moment, featuring Spanish guitarist Jordi Torrens. Rowe is also a member of the “funkulty” at Bootsy Collins’ Funk University. We know you’ll enjoy this most informative and entertaining six-part video presentation, produced especially for FBPO.
