An alliance of rockers that includes bassists Rudy Sarzo and Billy Sheehan is banding together to help the fight against multiple sclerosis. The group, which also includes Ozzy Osbourne, Marky Ramone, Billy Morrison (Billy Idol) and Mark Schulman (Cher/Pink), are participating in an all-star auction to help the nonprofit Rock Against MS Foundation.
Multiple sclerosis is a disorder where the protective coating of nerve cells in a person’s brain and spinal chord become damaged, disrupting their nervous system’s ability to communicate. It can cause a variety of sensory, motion and other issues including blindness and paralysis. MS currently affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.1 million worldwide.
The stars working with Rock Against MS are donating a variety of different experiences and items to the effort, including meetups, VIP concert tickets, artwork, equipment and more.
Rudy Sarzo, who’s known for his work with Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne and others, will be offering a two-hour bass lesson and a signed bass. Billy Sheehan, whose current projects include Sons of Apollo and the Winery Dogs, is auctioning off an opportunity for a personal two-hour bass lesson and a dinner, as well as a variety of gear including a Yamaha TRBX304 Black bass, Line 6 Wireless Relay G70/G75 and HELIX LT HX Guitar Processor.
Rock Against MS currently provides assistance and support services to people suffering from multiple sclerosis. They’re also in the process of building a center in L.A. called the Rock House, which will offer free treatment and other programs designed to help those affected by MS.
