Latin, fusion and gospel player talks about his work with Al DiMeola

Elías Tona Tona is the very definition of a versatile player,making a name for himself performing in genres as diverse as jazz, pop, salsa, rock, Latin, and gospel. Currently the bass player in Al DiMeola’s electric band, he’s also played with Grammy winner Sandi Patty and Grammy nominees Jerry Rivera, Kim Burrell, La India and Vashawn Mitchell, as well as Latin stars like Jose Luis Rodriguez, Guillermo Carrasco, Juliss and Yordano. Somehow, the in-demand bassist also finds time in his schedule to also teach at the Miami International Academy of Bass. He released his first solo album Profile in 2014.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman got a chance to speak with Tona about working with Al and an upcoming album during a recent performance at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor.
