Apparently, Esperanza Spalding still has a lot of pent up emotions she needs to express.  After a string of hit recordings, most notably Radio Music Society and Chamber Music Society, the Grammy-winning bassist/vocalist/composer is hitting the road to showcase her latest effort: Emily’s D+Evolution.

“This project is about going back and reclaiming un-cultivated curiosity, and using it as a compass to move forward and expand,” Spalding tells Pollstar.  “We will be staging the songs as much as we play them, using characters, video, and the movement of our bodies.”

Emily will feature all new material, incorporating elements of Spalding’s lifelong passions for theatre, poetry and movement, all unfolding as “live musical vignettes.”  Her aim, she says, “is to create a world around each song,” citing “a lot of juicy themes and stories in the music.”

And the title?  “Emily is my middle name, and I’m using this fresh persona as my inner navigator,” says Spalding.

The Emily’s D+Evolution tour will begin in San Francisco May 5 and end in New Orleans July 4. It will be preceded by performances of music from Chamber Music Society and Radio Music Society in a series of sold out shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
