If you’re looking to get a little freeky with your music, Stonefield has got just the thing for you. This summer Stonefield Musical Instrument Company released a very unique new signature bass for Cincinnati-born funkmeister Freekbass.
Believe it or not, the New Zealand manufacturer has modeled the new bass around Freekbass’ request to build him “the Batmobile.”
Based on Stonefield’s Model 1-4C, it’s a breathtaking instrument with a dark chocolate front and a lighter colored posterior. Several pieces are accented in red to give the bass guitar the desired “Batmobile” feel.
The top wood is made from African wenge and the fingerboard, nut and floating bridge are
constructed from Solomon Island ebony. Freekbass’ bass also comes with a “funk plate” between the pickup and fingerboard to assist bassists with double thumbing and other thumping techniques.
As for volume control, the instrument features a small control knob and a six position rotary switch with true bypass, four preset volume drops and an off position. It’s a setup that reflects Freekbass’ preference for “always having the volume wide open while still offering predictable drops at each setting.” This design helps to prevent the volume from accidentally being moved around when the funk gets a little crazy.
In addition to all this, the hardware has been fitted with titanium to help give the instrument a lighter feel. Stonefield is selling the Freekbass signature model through its website for a price tag of $4,650.
Freekbass recently returned from New Zealand, where he participated in the filming of a mini-movie about his new bass, and is currently on tour with his band, The Bump Assembly (SEE DATES BELOW).
