Bootsy Collins protégé becoming a star in his own right

We seem to be seeing and hearing more about Freekbass these days, as his career continues its steady climb.  A protégé of funk bass sensation – and fellow Cincinnatian – Bootsy Collins, Freekbass is becoming a bona fide solo artist of his own.  With a handful of albums already under his belt, Freekbass is now signed to eclectic indie label Ropeadope, which plans to release a new Freekbass album this fall.

Launched in 1999 with the release of DJ Logic’s Project Logic, Ropeadope has mushroomed into a formidable music entity with a steadily growing roster of artists. Included in the Ropeadope portfolio are Grammy winners Snarky Puppy and Col. Bruce Hampton, as well the Dirty Dozen Jazz Band and Marco Benevento.  Freekbass will join bassists Christian McBride and Bill Dickens, who are also in the Ropeadope family.  “I grew up listening to artists and music on Ropeadope,” says Freekbass, “and it’s such an honor to actually be a part of the label now.”
