Chicago and Jason Scheff have said farewell.
Citing “family health reasons,” the bassist and singer had been on a leave of absence since May. He’d been a member of the band since 1985, when he replaced their original bassist Peter Cetera. Coming in for the departing Scheff will be Jeff Coffey, who’d been filling in for him with Chicago while he was on leave.
In a post on their Facebook page, the band welcomed Coffey while wishing Scheff a heartfelt goodbye.
“We are so grateful to Jason for the enormous contribution he has made to Chicago over the last 30 plus years. Everyone wishes him and his family all the best as he continues his musical journey.”
While the change is a big one for Scheff, he’s certainly got a lot to keep him busy. Right now, he’s a judge on MTV Classic’s American Supergroup and is reportedly planning to work on some solo recordings.
