Kala Brand Music, makers of the renowned U-Bass, is attempting to dig an even deeper trench in the bass ukulele market. Since 2011, the company’s revolutionary 4-string U-Bass has grown increasingly popular with a multitude of bass players of all genres, including no less than Nathan East, Abraham Laboriel and Bakithi Kumalo.
Building on the success of Kala’s 4-string mini basses – and in response to continued requests for an instrument that goes even deeper – the company recently launched a 5-string version their SUB Series of Solid Body U-Basses. The new model, available in red, black, Sunburst and Cherryburst, feature Kala’s proprietary polyurethane strings, a Shadow active pickup with one volume control and a 2-band EQ, custom Hipshot tuners and a Graph Tech Black Tusq self-lubricating nut.
In addition to their incredible sound and versatility, U-Basses are super easy to transport, compared to conventional basses, and easily meet the carry-on requirements of most airlines. They all come with a Custom Deluxe Logo Gig bag too. List price for the new 5-string models is $619.
The U-Bass has been lauded on multiple occaions by the NAMM Show, Bass Player Magazine, MIPA and many other organizations. Kala is hoping the critical acclaim will continue with the new line.
Kala Brand Music, launched in 2005, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The company offers over 200 models of bass and guitar ukuleles and accessories. For more information on the Kala U-bass, click here.
