The Austin-based music and entertainment festival South-by-Southwest has added former Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic to its list of 2017 featured speakers.
Krist Novoselic will be appearing as part of the festival’s “Music Influencers” track along with Sammy Hagar, Mick Fleetwood and Cindy Wilson of the B-52s. Other speakers include singer-songwriter Kesha (who’s part of the “Social Impact” track), Buzz Aldrin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the cast of Veep, John Cena, Frank Oz and FBI Director James Comey.
Here’s how SXSW described the bassist who helped make grunge a household word in the 1990s:
“A member of the groundbreaking rock band Nirvana, Krist Novoselic and his bandmates changed the course of music history with their much-acclaimed album Nevermind. Novoselic went on to become one of rock’s most politically-minded musicians and an influential part of the Northwest political scene. He serves as Board chair for FairVote, a non-profit that seeks to make democracy fair.”
South-by-Southwest 2017 takes place March 10-18 in Austin, Texas. In addition to the speakers, the festival will, of course, also feature hundreds of music acts, including Merchandise, Lydia Ainsworth, Lizzo, Anna Meredith, GoldLink, Open Mike Eagle, Charlotte Day Wilson, Cherry Glazerr, Ladyhawke and more.
