Nathan East’s website says, “Chances are, you’ve spent your whole life listening to Nathan East. You just never knew it. Until now.”

The music legend has recorded and toured with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Toto and countless others.  In addition to listening to East, you will soon be able to view the documentary that chronicles his career from all the way back to his start as a 16-year old prodigy, touring with Barry White.

For the Record, which will premier in December on Hulu, features interviews with Clapton and Collins, as well as Quincy Jones, Vince Gill, Babyface, David Foster, Lionel Richie, Ray Parker Jr, Wynonna Judd, Don Was, Herbie Hancock, Bob James, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Al Jarreau, Dave Koz, Richard Marx, Mindi Abair, Hubert Laws, Lee Ritenour, David Paich, Chuck Loeb, Greg Phillinganes and more.

According to Billboard, East refers to the documentary as his “20 Feet From Stardom” moment. Said East, “I’d say it was 80 percent-90 percent done when [Yamaha Entertainment Group president and documentary director] Chris Gero sprung it on me. Usually, only the upfront people get something like this. I’m blessed beyond belief.”

East, as well as being one of the founding members of the contemporary jazz group Fourplay, has been recording hits with legendary artists for forty years. As stated by Billboard, “For the Record underscores why artists, musicians and producers alike call East ‘the bass player’s bass player’ and ‘musician’s musician.’”

Nathan is also working on his autobiography, I Love My Life, which will, no doubt, provide even more insights into his career.

East will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the National Association of Music Merchants’ (NAMM) Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards on January 24.
