A special trio put together by Jeff Hamilton, with Larry Fuller on piano, Christoph Luty on bass and Hamilton on drums, played a beautiful tribute to the late, legendary bassist Ray Brown August 20, as part of the Newport Sunset concert series.

According to the Jazz Police, the trio members took turns announcing the tunes and sharing interesting information about each selection, including for whom it was originally written or who first played it.  The two-set show included standards from Cole Porter, Neal Hefti and Miles Davis, as well as Kenny Burrell’s “Bass Face,” Dizzy Gillespie’s “Tin Tin Deo” and Duke Ellington’s “Prelude to a Kiss.”

Hamilton and Fuller drew from the time each spent in Brown’s trio earlier in their respective careers to perform an amazing concert that inspired a standing ovation from the audience.
