Paul McCartney will be making a guest appearance on the Foo Fighter’s next album, Concrete and Gold. As fate would have it, though, he’ll be playing drums, not bass, on the recording.

ET Canada broke the news of his musical cameo in July 31 interview with the band.

“We’ve known him for a long [time],” Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told the news show. “He’s great. He’s the most wonderful person in the world.”

“He hadn’t even heard of the song,” added an unspecified member of the band. “He comes in and Dave picked up an acoustic and showed him real quick. He sat on his special drum set that his tech set up for him. I sat there with a drumstick conducting. He did two takes.”

The new song won’t be the first time Dave and Paul have collaborated. In 2012, with the assistance of Nirvana alumni Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, they wrote and recorded the song “Give Me Some Slack” for Grohl’s movie Sound City.

Besides McCartney, the upcoming Foo Fighters album will also feature performances by Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman, the Kills’ Alison Mosshart, Bird and the Bee’s Inara George, saxophonist Dave Koz and a still unnamed vocal contributor that Grohl referred to as “probably the biggest pop star in the world.”

Concrete and Gold will be released Sept. 15.
