Pop Evil is really popping these days, with a new video as well an important announcement about their soon-to-be released fifth album.
Their latest video highlights their song, “Waking Lions,” a hard rocking tune about standing up to one’s fears. (WATCH BELOW.) It’ll appear on the band’s upcoming self-titled album, which debuts Feb. 16, 2017.
“Waking Lions,” jumps out at you right from the get-go, launching off with some incredibly heavy riffs and furious drumming before striking a more melodic mood at later points in the song. The video intersperses shots of the band with scenes of a young boy running through the corridors of a building and ultimately confronting the source of his fears.
“This is a dawn of a new day for Pop Evil,” vocalist Leigh Kakaty said in a statement. “The new lineup feels like a whole new chapter for us. We could not be more proud to lead off this new album cycle with ‘Waking Lions,’ sending a positive message to our fans.”
Pop Evil began writing the album in spring and recorded it in June with with producer Kato Khandwala. It’ll be their first studio album to feature drummer Hayley Cramer, who joined in 2016. In addition to all this good news, bassist Matt DiRito also hit a new personal milestone recently: celebrating four years of sobriety.
“I guess it’s like getting a bachelor’s degree in responsibility,” he said in an Oct. 30 tweet. “My sobriety is very important to me and the type of lifestyle that I want to live. I’m happy to have made it one more year. #Sober #SoberLife #Sobriety”
Pop Evil will be touring the U.S. later this month, starting with a show in Lexington, Kentucky on Nov. 16.
