Deftones and Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega is speaking up to raise awareness about the need for aid in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
In a video shared by Revolver (SEE BELOW), Vega, who is of Puerto Rican descent, called on his fans to assist residents struggling to meet their most basic needs following the devastating natural disaster, which struck the U.S. island territory on Sept. 20.
“I’m personally impacted by this because I have family there, I have a place there, I have friends there, and even if I wasn’t, it’s a humanitarian crisis that needs to be addressed.” He said. “There’s been minimal coverage of the actual extent of the devastation there, there’s been minimal aid from the federal government and that’s something that needs to change as soon as possible.”
Vega went onto speak about the lack of electricity and fresh water and other issues currently facing residents of the Caribbean island: “There are elderly people in buildings that are trapped in their apartments because the elevators don’t work. There are hospitals operating in the dark. And people like us can do something.”
