Roger Waters has released a video for his song “Wait for Me,” which appears on his latest album, Is This the Life We Really Want. (SEE BELOW.)
The actress-dancer Azzura, who also starred in Water’s video for “The Last Refugee,” appears here as a dancer getting ready for an audition as she tearfully looks over photographs of a young girl. That footage is interspersed with scenes of Waters and his band playing together in the studio. The music starts out slowly with piano playing and an acoustic guitar before embracing a fuller electrified sound later in the song.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Waters’ Film and Creative Director Sean Evans said they met Azzura during the casting of the Last Refugee and felt she was perfect for the part.
“That part called for a woman who was an experienced flamenco dancer and who could convincingly have a mother/daughter interaction with a child actress,” he told Rolling Stone.
“She did such a fantastic job during the filming of ‘The Last Refugee,’ that Roger and I wanted to include her in ‘Wait for Her.’ The song has a yearning that we felt a band performance alone wouldn’t quite address. ”
The words of Water’s song were inspired by “Lesson From the Kama Sutra (Wait for Her),” a poem by the late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
Waters is currently in the midst of his Us + Them tour. He’ll be playing Los Angeles tonight (July 21) and continue touring the U.S. and Canada through late October.
