Wishbone Ash will be opening the vaults next year to offer up a treasure trove of previously unreleased material in the form of a deluxe 30-CD box set called The Vintage Years. (WATCH PREVIEW VIDEO BELOW.)
Limited to just 2,500 copies, the new anthology will collect material produced by the British rockers from 1970-1991, including remastered versions of all 16 Wishbone Ash studio albums from that period as well as three original live albums and 8 unreleased live albums (collected on 11 discs). Fans can also expect to see rare album outtakes, B-sides and 12 previously unreleased studio tracks.
“I looked after most of these tape recordings for decades, wondering when they would ever see the light of day and I am very glad that they will at last be available for everyone to hear,” says founding bassist Martin Turner. “I wanted to mix the live performances myself, but being a busy chap and not famous for my speediness, we decided to give it all to the wonderful Pete Reynolds whom I believe has done a brilliant job of mixing and remastering a massive collection of work. It’s almost like having one’s whole musical life in one box. It certainly represents the most comprehensive Wishbone collection that I know of and I hope you enjoy it.”
In addition to the audio offerings, the box set will also feature new cover art created by Colin Elgie (who designed the group’s first live album, Live Dates) and a 156-page coffee table book authored by rock journalist Dave Ling, which will feature personal photos, posters, flyers and other memorabilia. What’s more, fans who purchase who purchase The Vintage Years set will also receive a 36 page poster book covering their early years through the release of Here to Hear, four 1970’s era poster reproductions, a facsimile MCA debut album promo pack, and a 7” flexi disc for the single “Blind Eye” and a series of photos signed by Martin Turner, Andy Powell, Ted Turner, Steve Upton and Laurie Wisefield.
Wishbone Ash’s The Vintage Years is set to come out in April 2018 through Madfish Music. Fans can pre-order the set now through Martin Turner’s site.
