Originally from the Boston area, Philip Bynoe is a world-renowned bassist, session player and touring artist.  Best known for his work with virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai, Bynoe has performed professionally in a multitude of musical genres, from heavy metal to R&B and classical.  His resume also includes work with Kevin Eubanks and The Tonight Show band, Dorian Holley, Slash, Charlie Farren, Tony MacAlpine and many others.

Bynoe received three Grammy nominations for recordings he made with Vai.  He also won an Emmy Award for his work on the soundtrack of a 2005 remake of Reefer Madness.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman sat down with Bynoe recently at the Los Angeles College of Music, where Bynoe is a longtime faculty member, teaching bass and ensemble playing.
