Hussain Jiffry is a bassist, composer, producer and engineer, originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka. After establishing himself in the Sri Lankan music scene, Hussain left home to tour Europe with an R&B band before ultimately settling in the United States.
Struggling, at first, to break into the Los Angeles music scene, Jiffry was eventually hired by Brazilian bandleader Sérgio Mendes, with whom he remained for 18 years.
Throughout the course of his career, Hussain has also performed and/or recorded with Tom Scott, David Foster, Michael McDonald, Freda Payne, Chaka Khan, Steve Winwood, Tito Puente, Jonathan Butler and many others. For the past 11 years, he has been touring and recording as a member of Herb Alpert and Lani Hall’s quintet.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Hussain recently in Hollywood, CA.
