Sid Menon is a man who knows a little bit about walking the line between different musical genres. Currently he’s the bassist, bandleader and musical director for country music singer Chris Lane. But the well-traveled musician also has his fair share of experience with metal and pop too. The North Carolina native spent much of the mid-2000s holding down bass and vocals for the Winston-Salem deathcore band Glass Casket (previously known as Gadrel). That band, which released two studio albums, also featured drummer Blake Richardson and guitarist Dustie Waring, who now play with the prog-metal band Between the Buried in Me. Around that time, he also performed with the Christian Metalcore band Upheld, appearing on their 2005 EP Behind Your Eyes. Later in the decade Menon switched his bass for a guitar and stepped out as frontman for Yearling, a pop-punk outfit that released a single album, The View from Here, in 2007.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman recently caught up with the eclectic musician at his home in Nashville during this year’s Summer NAMM for a conversation which delved into the musical influence of his Indian heritage, jumping from guitar to bass and why he always goes with D’Addario strings (even when he doesn’t know they’re D’Addarios).
