Want to lay down a funky R&B groove that feels really good?

Do you think you need James Jamerson or Rocco Prestia-type chops in order to do it?

Well, hold the phone…

It’s not the number of notes you play; it’s the feel you put into those notes.

Even a super simple bass line can make the music really groove, if you put the right kind of feel into it.

Do you like R&B grooves? Then you’ve already got the feel in you! You just need to practice translating that feel to the bass.

Is there a place for a busy R&B line? Of course there is. But do you need to play a thousand notes in order to get the job done? Not at all.

Watch the video below where I play some examples, both busy and (very) not busy. Then see what you can come up with on your own.
