Born and raised in Philadelphia, Alphonso Johnson is a master of both electric and upright bass, as well as the Chapman stick.  Throughout his long and brilliant career, Johnson has recorded and/or performed with Weather Report, the Cobham/Duke band, the Crusaders, Sergio Mendes, Tony Williams, Gregory Hines, Eddie Henderson, Flora Purim, Joe Williams, Quincy Jones, Lee Ritenour, John McLaughlin, Jeffrey Osborne, Sarah Vaughan, Dori Caymmi and many others.  Johnson is currently a faculty member at the Thornton School of Music at USC.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Alphonso at the Warwick headquarters, Markneukirchen, Germany.
