A professional bass player for more than 25 years, Larry Lee grew up in Dayton, OH, immersed in the hotbed of funk that emerged from that region in the early-to-mid ‘70s. Larry also spent 18 years in the NFL, in a career that included stints with the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins, as well as a trip to Super Bowl XXII with the Denver Broncos. After his football-playing days, Lee remained a part of the NFL as an executive for nine years.

Larry’s band, Back in the Day, is an 8-piece ensemble comprised of former members of the Temptations, the Dramatics, the Four Tops, the Spinners, Pariliament/Funkadelic and Bill Moss & the Celestials. Larry is a past recipient of Detroit Music Awards’ “Urban Funk Musician of the Year.” FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Larry at the 2013 Detrot Bass Fest.
