From big name artists to Broadway shows, Lynn Keller has certainly taken a multifaceted approach to her career. On the popular music side of the equation, she’s played with Diana Ross, The Fifth Dimension, Michelle Shocked, Oleta Adams and Freda Payne as a touring bassist and doubled as both bassist and musical director for Rita Coolidge, Nell Carter & Simply the Best and Jackie DeShannon. She’s also had extensive experience in the world of musical theatre, playing bass with the first national touring company for Little Shop of Horrors, as well as the world premieres of Sister Act, Mask and Leap of Faith.
Beyond that, Keller also performed alongside jazz greats like Mel Torme, Randy Brecker and Toshiko Akiyoshi during her time with the University of Texas’ Jazz Orchestra and has had the pleasure of backing up composer Alan Menken during a solo show at Lincoln Center. Her current work includes serving as Musical Director for the Movieguide Awards and touring with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock.
During a recent visit to Hollywood, California, FBPO’s Jon Liebman had a chance to chat with the versatile Ms. Keller about her journey from flute player to bass player, her recently released MTD signature bass, upcoming projects and more.
