If you’re looking for a bass player who likes diving into the weird and wonderful, Joe Branton is your guy. He’s the bassist for Poly-Math a U.K.-based instrumental group that loves experimenting with unique sounds and shifting time signatures. Together with guitarist Tim Walters and drummer Chris Woollison, he makes music that blends elements of prog and math rock while infusing it all with some hard-hitting punk rock energy.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman got a chance to speak with this fascinating bassist about his musical origins, influences and the “most ridiculous prog thing we’ve ever done” during this year’s Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California.
