Italian session player Mario Guarini has worked with some of the biggest names in Italian music, artists like Claudio Baglioni, Massimo Ranieri, Gino Paoli and Ornella Vanoni. Beyond that, he’s also been a steady presence on Italian television, playing bass on the popular talent show “Amici” from 2006 and 2013 as well as various other programs over the years with the orchestra of Maestro Peppe Vessicchio.

This past December, however stepped out of his usual supporting role and on to center stage, releasing a new solo album called Now It’s My Turn. The instrumental bass-centered album highlights Guarini’s personal style and features an extraordinary cast of guest artists that includes Mike Stern, Vinnie Colaiuta, Richard Bona and Michael Landau.

During this winter’s NAMM show in Anaheim, California, FBPO’s Jon Liebman had a chance to sit down with Guarini to talk about the new album, as well his influences, gear and other topics.
