Exclusive video interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman

For Justin Raines playing the bass is more than simply a profession, it’s a spiritual calling. The Atlanta-based bassist, drummer and instructor’s musical life has always been informed by his involvement and experiences with the church. Not surprisingly, he’s gravitated towards gospel music, touring and recording with artists like Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, Karen Clark-Sheard and Kim Burrell. He’s no stranger to the pop and R&B worlds either, having collaborated with performers like JoJo, Musiq Soulchild and Coko Clemons.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Justin at the MTD booth at this year’s Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California for a short chat about a new album, how he came to play the bass and the influence of Andrew Gouche.
