Angeline Saris may be in the running for the world’s most interesting bass player. First off, she has incredible range. Rock. Jazz. R&B. Fusion. Funk. You name it. She’s worked with the Grammy-winning musician Narada Michael Walden, guitarist Gretchen Menn, ska and reggae great Ernest Ranglin, the all-female Led Zeppelin cover band Zepparella and even jammed on stage with Carlos Santana. And in addition to knowing four-and-five-string basses inside and out, she’s also got a reputation for rocking out on an electric upright. She’s also served as an instructor at the National Guitar Workshop, and regularly works as a studio musician and sidewoman for hire in the Bay area.
Lately she’s been busy collaborating on a side project called Angelex with drummer Lex Razon.
During a meetup at this year’s Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California, FBPO’s Jon Liebman spoke with her about Angelex’s new album Tight Lips, her newly designed Warwick Triumph upright and upcoming tour plans with Narada Michael Walden.
