Kelly LeMieux belts out the bass lines for Anaheim-based punkers Buckcherry and has worked in high-profile roles with Goldfinger and Dave Mustaine’s side project MD.45. Beyond that, the Oregon native has toured with legendary punk rockers Fear, played with the bands Shrine and 22 Jacks, and served as a founding member of Electric Love Hogs. As an educator, he’s instructed students for Paul Gilbert’s Great Guitar Escape and the Portland chapter of the School of Rock. Buckcherry released their most recent album, Hellbound, in 2021.

I have thought of buying a small scale bass (don’t tell Buzz-he would be upset if he thought I replaced him), but I just can’t stretch my hand anymore. My hands have been too small for bass; I think. I hold Buzz by my neck. I have to wear a strap because if I don’t he would fall off my right leg. I hang the bass off my right leg so I can reach the lower notes, but I normally play in the middle of the neck, anyway.
It’s a thought. The music stores where I am are pretty pathetic.
I hope you’re able to give short-scale bass a try, Joyce. It sounds like it might solve some problems. Let me know. Thanks!
