Former Creedence Clearwater Revival bassist opens up about new Netflix documentary
Exclusive video interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman
November 14, 2022
If you listen to rock and roll on the radio, you’ve no doubt heard Stu Cook’s bass playing on timeless songs like “Bad Moon Rising” and “Lookin’ Out My Back Door.” Together with John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, and Doug Clifford, the bassist helped found the legendary rock outfit Creedence Clearwater Revival. Originally coming together as the Blue Velvets in 1959, the members of the band changed their name to its more famous incarnation in 1967.
After several years of radio dominance, they split ways in 1972. Cook would go on to play in the country band Southern Pacific and later reunite with Clifford to play their former group’s classic songs under the banner of Creedence Clearwater Revisited. Cook and the other members of the original CCR lineup are currently the focus of a new Netflix documentary, Travelin’ Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall.

Great interview. I watched that documentary on Netflix with the band playing @ Royal Albert Hall. CCR were a great band. I was way too young to appreciate them when they were at their peak. The drummer was solid.
Yes, that documentary was great — especially the concert, of course! Glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks, Marcus!
Jon, this is Jim Pons. I was the bass player for the Turtles, Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention, and then Flo and Eddie. Love your site!
Thanks, Jim. What an honor!
