Playing Bass Over Just One Chord

It’s not boring; it’s fun!

The job of the bass player is to lock in with the drummer, set the foundation for the band, and make the music feel good.

A lot of times — most times, in fact — that involves playing some variation of three chords (typically I, IV, and V).

Other times, it’s playing through a lot chord changes really fast.

But what about those times when it’s just one chord, played over and over again? How do you make your bass grooves interesting while staying true to your job as the band’s bass player?

In this week’s video, I share a bunch of ideas on how to lay down a feel-good bass groove over just one chord.

Boring? No way!

Fun? Oh, man!

Watch and listen, then give some of these ideas a try.

Let’s play bass!

Sometimes simple with space can be the ticket and allow the groove to breath and that goes for the drummer as well, well done, Jon.
