Andrew Barta launched his music equipment company Tech 21 in Manhattan in 1989. A musician himself, he didn’t originally set out to become a celebrated manufacturer. But the success of his innovative SansAmp, an analog amp emulator, helped establish him as a pioneering figure in the music technology field. Now 30 years after its founding, Tech 21 is known as a go-to brand for amps guitar and bass effects, pedals and DI units.
At this year’s Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim California, FBPO’s Jon Liebman spoke with Barta about his love of the bass, the origins of his company, and his friendship with guitar legend Les Paul.
