Camaroonian native tells of being discovered by Paul Simon, composing with Stanley Clarke and lots more in new video interview!
Born in Camaroon, Armand Sabal-Lecco is a world-renowned bassist, composer and producer. After spending much of his youth in Paris, where his musical career began to take hold, Armand was invited to New York to play on Paul Simon’s Rhythm of the Saints album. Sabal-Lecco subsequently toured extensively with Simon after that and was the bassist for Paul Simon’s Concert in Central Park album. Armand has also worked with the Brecker Brothers, Vanessa Williams, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Ray Charles, Stanley Clarke, John Patitucci, Carole King, Jeff Beck and many others. FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Armand at the Warwick headquarters in Markneukirchen, Germany.

Great interview Jon. An impressive, humble guy.
Your information is incorrect re: ASL performing on Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Concert in Central Park.” According to the personnel listing on YT, it’s another bass guitar master, Anthony Jackson, who should be credited. However, ASL DID perform on Paul Simon’s “Live in Central Park” album, according to discogs.com
You’re absolutely right, Robert! The strangest thing is, just yesterday I was thinking about the error and wondered if I’d ever corrected it. Armand’s bio is accurate now. Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention.
