Austrian bassist Bernhard Lackner certainly gets around. Currently playing for Leo Meixner’s CubaBoarsich 2.0, a band that mixes Cuban and Bavarian musical traditions, he’s also collaborated with a ton of high-profile musicians, including Victor Wooten, Jeff Coffin of the Dave Matthews Band, Chester Thompson of The Mothers of Invention, Marco Minnemann of The Mute Gods and French jazz multi-instrumentalist Mino Cinelu. Lackner has also performed at numerous international music festivals, like Eurobassday in Italy and the Ibanez Guitar Festival in Germany, released several instructional books and five albums of his own music, as well as his own Hudson Music book, For The Brave.
In a never-before-seen video, FBPO’s Jon Liebman speaks with Lackner about his philosophy of being true to oneself as an artist and the early stages of his latest release, Halbweg.
