Exclusive video interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman

Brian Allen may be best known for his work with guitar wizard Robben Ford. (And he certainly has some killer solos with Ford’s band available for viewing via social media.) But that’s just the start of long list of well-known artists the sought-after session bassist has toured or recorded since he graduated from L.A.’s Musician’s Institute in 1999.
A man of many styles, Allen’s work has taken him all over the musical map—jazz, country, funk, folk, pop and rock—as well as onto the stage and into the recording booth with the likes of Dolly Parton, Greg Adams of Tower of Power, Sara Bareilles, Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Keb Mo’, Jamey Johnson, John Scofield, Anderson East and the Temptations, among others. Beyond this work, he’s also taught at the Musician’s Institute and appeared as a bassist in the 2003 folk music mockumentary A Mighty Wind.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman had an opportunity to speak with Allen about his musical background, playing with Robben Ford and other topics during a conversation at this year’s Summer NAMM in Nashville, Tennessee.
