Fiery young bassist has taken the Latin music community by storm

Elías Tona is an accomplished bassist, arranger and producer.  After making a name for himself in his native Venezuela, Tona relocated to the United States, where he gained a reputation as a master groover in jazz, pop, salsa, rock, gospel and other genres.

He has worked with Latin luminaries Yordano, Jose Luis Rodriguez (“El Puma”), Guillermo Carrasco, Roque Valero, Aline Barros, Julissa and many others.

Tona is currently on the teaching faculty at the Players School of Music, founded by Jeff Berlin, in Clearwater, Florida.  His debut album, Profile, was released in December 2014.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Elías at the Black Diamond Strings factory in Sarasota, Florida.
