A native of Texas, Gary Willis is an acclaimed bassist, composer and bandleader.  In addition to co-leading the popular Tribal Tech group with guitarist Scott Henderson, Willis has led his own bands, having recruited the likes of Dennis Chambers, Scott Kinsey, Steve Tavaglione and Kirk Covington for his wide-ranging projects.  As a sideman, Gary has performed with Wayne Shorter, Allan Holdsworth, Hubert Laws, Simon Phillips, Joe Diorio, Robben Ford, Phil Upchurch and many others.

Since 2004, Willis has made his home in Spain, where he teaches composition, arranging and improvisation at Barcelona’s prestigious Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman recently caught up with Gary at the Warwick headquarters in Markneukirchen, Germany.
