Steve Lawson is one of the most distinctive voices in the bass world, virtually impossible to pigeonhole. Known for his innovative approach to solo bass, Steve’s music blends elements of new-age, post-rock, ambient-jazz, and experimental improvisation. Using an array of pedals, loopers, and electronic effects, he creates rich soundscapes that have earned him critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Steve at the Warwick Bass Camp in Markneukirchen, Germany, where they discussed his creative process, gear setup, and unique approach to composing and performing.
