British bassist/vocalist talks about career, equipment and the challenges of being a woman in the music industry
Exclusive interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman
November 10, 2014
Born in London, England, Yolanda Charles took up the bass at an early age, after a short stint with guitar. While still a teenager, Charles landed a gig with Scottish singer/songwriter Jimmy Somerville in his band, the Communards, and her career was underway. Since then, Yolanda has worked with music giants Sinéad O’Connor, Robbie Williams, BB King, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltry, Van Morrison, Jermaine Jackson and many others, in addition to fronting her own funk/fusion band, the Deep MO.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Yolanda at the 2014 NAMM show.

Jon,
Thanks for interviewing my future girlfriend.
