Longtime Berklee bass faculty member weighs in on the “right” number of strings for a bass

Joe Santerre has performed and/or recorded with Mike Mangini, Chad Wackerman, Gurthrie Govan, John Petrucci, Tom Coster, Steve Morse, Jon Finn and many others. Primarily known for playing a six-string electric bass, Joe has been on the faculty of Berklee College of Music for over thirty years.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with Joe in his Berklee studio to get an update of his career highlights and discuss the often touchy concept of how many strings a bass “should” have!
