Katt Bell plays—or more accurately attacks—the bass for the Arizona-based synth metal outfit Element a440. Known for their fierce lyrics, edgy electro-tinged industrial rock riffs and dark theatrics, Element a440 has been attracting lots of attention over the past few years. Project Independent, an independent rock music network based in Los Angeles, chose them to headline their national tour in 2013. And they won the award for “Best Live Performance by an Unsigned Band” at 2016’s National Association of Independent Rock Music Awards. More recently they’ve been sharing their message of nonconformism and primal release with fans during a frenetic tour across the United States.
Recently FBPO’s Jon Liebman sat down with Bell to learn more about her journey from classically trained violinist to heavy metal bass mistress, why she prefers bass strings that can tow a truck without losing their tone, signing a record deal and the prospects for a new Element a440 album.
