Why I believe everything should groove — even scales!

Ever since you started learning bass, you’ve probably been told repeatedly, “Learn your scales! Learn your modes!”

Have you ever wondered why?

Yes, it’s important to know your scales and modes. They’ll help you build bass technique and make you a more proficient bass player.

But there’s more to it than that. 

If you know anything about me and the way I teach bass, you know I like to make everything groove. Even scales.

In this week’s video, I share some insights and offer up a few pointers on how to get those scales under your fingers, with an eye toward actually making music (what a concept, eh?).
