Although he possesses a warm humble demeanor, Neil Jason is certainly a fellow who could brag about his career if he felt the need. Over the years, the New York City native has played with the likes of Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, KISS, The Four Tops, Diana Ross, Eartha Kitt, Roxy Music, Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry Celine Dion, Eddie Van Halen, The Brecker Brothers and Luciano Pavarotti. And that’s just the abridged list. Beyond that, he served as a member of the SNL house band from 1983 and 1985 and made more than 100 appearances with Paul Schaffer’s band on David Letterman’s Late Night talk show. Jason has also been a prolific film and television composer.
FBPO’s Jon Liebman recently caught up with Jason to find out what he’s been up to, learn about the rerelease of his Seamoon Funk Machine effects pedal and hear what advice he has for beginning bassists..
