Nick Beggs isn’t afraid of stretching his musical muscles. He rose to prominence playing with the new wave band Kajagoo, best known for its chart-topping 1983 hit, “Too Shy.” But over the years, Beggs has been involved with a bunch of diverse acts, including the Celtic rock group Iona; pop music ensemble Ellis, Beggs and Howard; and prog-rock supergroup The Mute Gods. And, in addition to his prowess with the bass, he’s also an adept and advocate of the Chapman Stick.

FBPO’s Jon Liebman had a chance to speak with the sonically adventurous musician during a recent meet-up at the London Bass Guitar Show. They discussed how Beggs was influenced by Geddy Lee and punk rock, his time with Kajagoogoo, the Chapman Stick, upcoming projects and talked about tips for aspiring bass players.
