This week’s interview is doubly good, as we talk to Rob Turner and Jim Reilly for the story of how EMG pickups transformed the music industry.
Rob Turner is the founder of EMG, a California-based pickup company known for its innovative use of onboard battery-powered preamps. The manufacturer’s pickups became wildly popular with rock and metal artists during the 1980s and remain so today. Victor Wooten, Doug Wimbish, and Robert Trujillo are among the many musicians who use EMG products.
Jim Reilly is a musician and author known for his biographies of musical tech innovators like Emmett Chapman and Ned Steinberger. His brand new book, Chasing Tone: How Rob Turner and EMG Revolutionized the Guitar’s Sound, was released on August 15.
