Bass Hang founder talks of learning by teaching, building community, and creating a life in music

Steve Araujo is a versatile bassist from Southern California and the creator of The Bass Hang, an online platform that brings together musicians and makers of instruments and gear. With more than two decades of experience performing, recording, and touring, Steve has worked across a wide range of genres with artists including Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, John Stowell, Jody Fisher, Alex Skolnick, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Corey Taylor, and Scott Ian.
A lifelong student of the instrument, Steve studied electric bass with Baba Elefante, Victor Wooten, Gary Willis, and Alphonso Johnson; double bass and jazz with John Clayton and Dr. Art Davis; and classical technique with Anders Swanson and David Borkenhagen.
In addition to his performing and teaching, Steve recently completed an eight-year tenure as Director of Sales & Artist Relations at G&L Musical Instruments, a position he was offered in 2017 following the success of The Bass Hang.
