A heavy hitter on the Dutch jazz scene, Thomas Winther Andersen is an in-demand solo bassist, sideman and bandleader who has composed music for both jazz ensembles and chamber orchestras. Over the years, he’s toured the U.S. and Europe and collaborated with the likes of Lee Konitz, Sheila Jordan, Michiel Borstlap, Jasper Blom, and Jimmy Halperin. A native of Norway, Andersen moved to the Netherlands in the late ‘80s to study music at the Amsterdam Conservatory and ended up relocating there permanently. In 2013, his acoustic-electric ensemble Winther-Storm received a Best Jazz Album award from the Independent Music Awards for the album Spinnaker. The latest albums Andersen appears on include Robert Rook’s New Era and Intuit Trio’s self-titled release.
