How the dominant 7th chord will take your bass playing a long way

Over the last few weeks, I demonstrated various ways of playing three-note major and minor arpeggios, and how to use those skills to build good bass lines.
In today’s lesson, we’ll take it a step further, with a 4-note arpeggio, specifically, the dominant 7th chord.
Though this arpeggio only adds one note, it packs a powerful punch, adding a lot of options to laying down a good bass line in practically any style.
In this week’s video, you’ll also learn how to take advantage of the inherent symmetry and consistency of the bass, in order apply this skill anywhere — and everywhere — on the instrument, and how you can use this technique in countless songs, in any key.
As I break down the concept of basic chord structure, you’ll get a dose of music theory to boot. Watch the video and follow my instructions. Then see what you can come up with. It’ll open up a world of new possibilities. It’s a lot of fun too!
Be sure to leave me a comment and share your takeaways, as well your experience on how you applied this approach to your bass playing. I can’t wait to hear from you.
Let’s play bass!
