Carey Nordstrand is founder and “Chief Mad Scientist” at Nordstrand Audio, manufacturers of short-scale electric basses and electronics for bass and guitar in Redlands, CA. After initially going to school for recording engineering, Carey switched career paths to studying instrument building and electronics throughout the ‘90s, most notably with Steve Azola and Suhr Guitars. This ultimately led to the founding of Nordstrand Guitars in 2002, followed by Nordstrand Pickups in 2003, which are known for their signature angled poles. Both brands were consolidated into Nordstrand Audio in 2017, which now produces instruments, pickups, Rocket Surgeon pedals, preamps, and the ever-popular NordyMute for electric bass.
