The problem may be the phrasing — even if the notes are right
Have you ever played a bass line where you knew you were hitting the right notes, but somehow it still didn’t feel right?
Here’s something I learned years ago that can help: Sing what you’re playing.
When you sing a line, you may naturally phrase it differently than you do when you play it. Listen to that phrasing, then try to make your fingers reproduce what you heard in your voice.
In this week’s video, I demonstrate the idea and show you how something as simple as singing your bass line can help improve your groove and feel.
Give it a try. You’ll be surprised at what a huge difference it makes.
