Freekbass Does Stonefield

Watch Freekbass in “Looking For the Bassmaker” and see why Stonefield is “the bass you’ve always wanted”

Exclusive video interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman

Stonefield Musical Instruments, based in Christchurch, New Zealand, was founded by Tomm Stanley, who had a vision for combining various elements he liked on other stringed instruments, wondering why he could never find them on a bass. The results yielded a groundbreaking new direction for design and playability of the electric bass.

Cincinnati funk sensation Freekbass stumbled upon Tomm and Stonefield at the 2016 London Bass Guitar Show (immediately upon finishing up his interview with For Bass Players Only!). With Freek and Tomm immediately hitting of off, the next thing anybody knew, Freekbass was heading off to New Zealand to work with Tomm on a brand new Freekbass Signature Model Stonefield bass.

But that’s not the end of the story. The collaboration culminated in the production of the just-released Stonefield video, Looking For the Bassmaker, starring Tomm and Freek (watch it, below).

FBPO’s Jon Liebman caught up with both men last month in Hollywood, CA, to talk about the uniqueness of Stonefield instruments and why Stonefield claims it can build you “the bass you’ve always wanted.”
